Diarrhea involves the frequent release of watery faeces or simply the expulsion of watery stools much more frequently than normal.

CAUSES – Diarrhea can be caused by:

• GASTRIC INFECTIONS

• FOOD ALLERGIES /INTOLERANCE

• FOOD TOXINS.

TREATMENT – The treatment of diarrhea mainly concerns nutrition. There are certain foods one needs to increase in his /her diet,and also there are certain foods that needs to be reduced or completely eliminated.

HERE IS A LIST OF FOODS TO BE INCREASED OR EATEN DURING A SEVERE DIARRHEA:
* carrot
* paw-paw(papaya)
* rice
* apple
* soymilk(beverage)
* yoghurt
* banana
* tapioca
* oats
* chestnut
* quince
* pomegranate and of
* all fibres.

FOODS TO BE ELIMINATED OR REDUCED DURING DIARRHEA INCLUDE:
* Milk
* fruit juices
* eggs
* shellfish and
* chicken.

Other treatments include:
• The intake of Oral Rehydrating Serum (this can easily be prepared by mixing a teaspoon of salt and 4 tablespoons of sugar in a litre)
• Intake of vegetables
