Diabetes mellitus – causes, types, prevention, treatment and recommended diets!

Diabetes mellitus – This is a disorder due to a deficiency in insulin production. It results from the accumulation of excess glucose in the blood.

Types of diabetes
There are mainly two (2) types of diabetes, namely:

TYPE l /INSULIN-DEPENDENT DIABETES
Caused mainly due to a viral infection, a toxin, or an autoimmune reaction, all reinforced by a hereditary predisposition. In this case, the insulin- producing cells of the pancreas are destroyed. These diabetics tend to be thin and must receive insulin from infancy.

TYPE ll /NON-INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETES

Its causes are unknown, but it is exacerbated by a diet rich in sweets and refined products and poor in whole grains

PEOPLE AFFECTED – This disorder mainly affects the adults, but younger ones are slowly being diagnosed of this deadly disease recently.

SYMPTOMS – The main symptoms are lose of weight (i.e dehydration) and muscular weakness.

Preventive measures

* To avoid this deadly disease known as DIABETES MELLITUS, you must avoid or minimize the intake of carbohydrate rich food, as it tends to accumulate within the body.

* Strenous exercise regularly reduce the risk of having diabetes, as this tends to burn up excess glucose in the body.

TREATMENT: The main treatment of diabetes is by oral intake of insulin or regular doses of insulin injections.

RECOMMENDED DIETS
Here is a list of certain foods that are recommended and contribute significantly to the control of diabetes and the avoidance of its complications

VEGETABLES, LEGUMES, FRUITS, ONION, AVOCADO, CELERY, NUTS, WHOLE GRAINS, ARTICHOKE, MUSHROOM, POTATOE, WHEAT GERM AND NOPAL.

Here is also a list of foods that initiate or exacerbate diabetes, and must be reduced or completely
eliminated

SUGARS, HONEY, SHELLFISH, MEAT, MILK, SALT, REFINED BAKED GOODS, SATURATED FAT, CHOCOLATE AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.
